Oh, Connery has no idea. Heh heh heh.
I haven't talked about this whole thing much in here...it's been hard.
I should have started looking for/getting on puppy lists about the
same time I lost Kacey. But of course...I was also so sick, and it's
been a very long recovery, still ongoing. And then I moved. And knew
almost right away that I'd be moving again. And then I was in a
contract gap, with no feel for my schedule or whether I'd even sell
books at all. Not smart timing to bring along another puppy, eh?
I'd been in touch with a performance & show breeder for quite a bit of
that time, in fact, and I was slated for her next litter, but even as
it was time to breed this spring, she experienced a personal tragedy
and no longer has her kennel.
Now, if I wanted to wait, I could get on several breeder lists locally
and also investigate several performance kennels not local, and hope
for something in the next couple of years. And that may yet happen.
By looking at a 10 mo-old dog, I'm compromising on some things that I
feel are essential to creating the kind of performance dog that
Connery turned out to be. So it'll have to be a really good fit.
However, there are a number of pros about it, too. As I head into a
time when Belle pushes toward retirement, I really want to feel I have
something coming up in training. As I head toward the end of the
summer and into fall, when I don't believe we'll have Jean-Luc any
longer...
Well, two dogs does not seem like enough...
